Lake Bunyonyi (the name means “place of little birds”) in Western Uganda lies close to the border with Rwanda. Surrounded by steep terraced hillsides, it is unspoilt and stunningly beautiful. I have tried to capture not just the extraordinary landscapes, but also scenes of daily life. In all, since March 2015, I have made 10 visits to this part of Uganda, including a term’s stay as Visiting Lecturer at the local university. So Uganda now feels like a second home. The friendships forged over this time have helped me develop as a photographer: understanding of the culture has grown in tandem with growing mastery of the camera. And through voluntary work in teacher education life has taken on new meaning. This lake is a special place - its beauty consolidates this sense of peace.
